HamilSun Community Solar Farm is located on unused, fallow farmland in Peru, New York that was previously the site of an apple orchard. The landowner family, having resided in Peru, NY for 5+ generations, wanted to develop a community solar farm for the benefit of the local community on this unused portion of their farm. It consists of 5,208 sun-tracking panels that turn sunlight into clean energy and savings for households in the NYSEG region. HamilSun is focused on providing up to 80% of the solar credits to low- and moderate-income residents (LMI), in coordination with NYSERDA's Inclusive Community Solar program. Availability is limited, so reserve your share to lock in your savings before it sells out!
This farm will provide community solar credits to households in the NYSEG service area, saving nearby residents 20% on their energy costs without any installations or homeownership requirements. HamilSun will generate enough energy from the sun to provide clean, local energy and savings to hundreds of local households each year. Since New York subscribers benefit from state policies that support consolidated billing, subscribers get to see their savings show up directly on their National Grid utility bill.
The project is expected to go live in the summer of 2025, although a concerted effort to have the project live by the end of 2024 is being pursued. Achieving this goal is somewhat weather dependent, as construction during winter can be difficult in this part of the world.
